A Little Good, With the Bad

Brey has a cold. Sneezing, coughing, runny/stuffy nose (I never understand how that can be), trouble sleeping and eating, slight fever, the works. I called his pediatrician to ask what I could do to help keep him comfortable. Apparently I'm already doing it all (being the excellent mom that I am :) and so I just have to let it run its course. But the nurse did say, that in light of the RSV cases in town, and the fact that he was premature, and that he has all of the symptoms of RSV (minus the high fever), that if his temp rises half of a degree I have to either take him to the doctors office (if its open) or the ER (if its not). FUN! I'm half anticipating having to go to the ER tonight... seeing as that's how things seem to work around here. But then again, since I'm expecting something maybe it won't happen. Usually we are blindsided by bad news. :) Its kinda frustrating tho, because Michael and I pay thousands of dollars for these synegis shots... and if he ends up getting RSV anyway, its like a waste of money that COULD have been spent paying off all of his other medical bills!! Oh well... :)

On a good note, RIGHT AFTER I talked to the nurse at the doctors office about all THAT junk... his cardiologist called. They got the info from his last monitor download, and it was CLEAR!!!! Despite the alarms going off FIVE times! I think I wrote something a few posts ago about how his monitor setting should have been adjusted 3 months ago, but weren't... and so they were coming to fix it, la dee dah... well apparently they looked at it under the correct settings, and it was clear. :) So..... they are discontinuing his monitor!!!! YAY!!! No more!! I am BEYOND excited about this. Ive been waiting for this since the day he came home. When I was talking to the cardiologist, I was feeling all giddy. :) I am SO happy for him! And proud of him! He's healthy! And best of all, they don't make button up sleepers in size 18 months, Ive looked almost everywhere. They all zip. Which we couldn't use before at night time, because the cords from his monitor has to come out of his PJ's by his little diaper butt. But now that we wont be having cords.........!! YAY! ((Should I say it one more time??? YAY!!!!!) So anyway... I was about to be discouraged, and then God sent me a pick-me-up. ;)

Ive finally got Breydon sleeping. He's upright in his swing, swinging, next to a warm mist humidifier. Seems to be helping. SO, while he's not needed to cling to mommy (for who knows how long) I'm going to go do something other than hold a clingy baby.

Lastly, I am SO thankful for my professors. They are soo willing to work with me when Breydon is sick and I can't be there... or when my sitter has something else to do and I can't find someone else to watch him. They have excused all my absences, let me make things up, and turn this in late... its sooooo helpful. One of my profs even said that Breydon is welcome to come to class with me if I needed him to!! I would LOVE to show him off, but I think that we would be a huge disturbance, with his new found voice. He'd talk and squeal through the whole thing, and then naturally, because he's so darn cute... no one would be paying attention. So. I think Ill just stay home and save everyone else the trouble. ;) ;) ;)
But seriously though, I really REALLY appreciate them working with me. It makes going to back to school with a 6 month old very very do-able.

I am absolutely, 100%, downright and completely excited for Breydon's 6 month pictures!! I bought him so cute clothes from Old Navy to mix and match outfits with... and then when I was browsing Etsy.com one night I ran into these things that I just HAD to get him:

How adorable is this!?!

(The tie fabric I chose was letter A in the picture. It will match his blue collared button down Oxford shirt that I bought him!!)

So Im pretty much the most excited mom ever right now. :)

big boy, BIGGER boy

So... my sister and I went shopping last weekend to get a few things that I needed for Breydon. A convertable carseat since he is outgrowing his other one... clothes... bigger bottles... basically just a bunch of stuff we already had, but BIGGER. :) He's in 9 month clothes right now, and 6-12mo from Old Navy. But ANYWAY, we went to babies r us and got a bunch of 12 month sleepers since he's in 9 months now. I tried them on him a few days ago, just to see how close he was to fitting into them... and they fit. A few are actually too tight??? So... apparently we needed size 18 months! I do not know how on earth we almost skipped an entire size!! So now I have to go out and get the RIGHT size, here in a few weeks. So crazy.

You might remember seeing a few of Breydon's newborn pictures that we had done by Leah Hoskins (we absolutely love her. If you are in the area and need a photographer for your baby, I HIGHLY recommend her) where he was dressed up with the little blue bear cub hat (I think a few of the pictures are posted on the right side of the blog, a little ways down). WELLLLLLLLLL... he has another photoshoot on March 9th! I am sooo freakin' excited to see how they look!! My house is already plastered with pictures of my baby (as it should be), so Im going to need to buy some more picture frames!! :)

Breydon has started this thing where he rubs his face in my hair. Do any other babies do that?? I have no idea why he does it. At first I thought my hair was just in his face and he was trying to get away from it, but today he's been going out of his way to get to it. Silly boy. Maybe its because it smells good. Im SURE it does. ;) Especially after he drools in it... mmmmm... I love being a mom. ;)

We are supposed to get a winter storm tonight/tomorrow... and I hope we actually do. I've learned to not get my hopes up because they call for bunches of snow all the time, and it seems like somehow Kosciusko always gets missed. All the counties around us get hammered, but we are in the clear. I looked at the radar though, and it looks promising. So hopefully we'll get SOMETHING. :)

I swear!

I swear Breydon's pediatrician and Cardiologist are trying to scare me to death. It feels like every time we go to the doctor they come up with something else to have us be concerned about. Yesterday at his 6 month check up they did the usual measure and weigh thing. Breydon is now 19.7 pounds and 26 inches long (I dont remember his head measurment). His weight is in the 85th percentile, and his height is in the 40th percentile. Yay! His head was in the 25th, but now it is apparently in the 75th. So they were all concerned that his head growth was water on the brain or a tumor. Really?? REALLY?? Does he ACT like hes having neurological problems? NO. Hes right where he should be developmentally, both physically and socially. The nurse said thay he has caught up from his prematurity... PLUS some :). Happy 6 months, sweet pea!!

I was remembering today how afraid of Breydon I used to be. He was always hooked up to his monitor, he'd cough and gasp for air when he would eat because he was so uncoordinated... and now he's on stage 2 solids eating from a spoon like a big boy. I'm amazed at how far he has come- how far we ALL have come.

He still has his monitor... unfortunately, he hasn't had two months in a row without an epidose. He's had 2 clean months, but they werent consecutive. And he's had two episodes this month, so that means the absolute EARLIEST he could have it off is mid May. But Im not holding my breath... he's probably going to be wearing it until he is 8.

Breydon has been so. incredibly. grumpy. for the last few weeks... and I finally have an answer as to why. Until recently he hasnt had any physical signs of teeth. I just wondered. But I can now see two little white bumps on his top gums. It looks like he may be getting his first 2 teeth shortly (One can hope!!)! Thank goodness for Tylenol. Its a lifesaver.

As far as developmental milestones... Im thinking hes a little bit behind where he should be based on his actual age. He's not rolling in either direction, and hes not really pushing up with his hands (the push-up position). He absolutely hates being on his belly. He can however, sit up for a few seconds unassisted, and he can stand holding onto a railing (if I put him there). He has very strong legs. He's grabbing with his hands and has a ton more coordination that he did before. He used to just swat at things, but he has the control now to grab them and try to get them into his mouth. He has a parrot on his play mat that he always tries to eat, and gets royally ticked off when he cant get it to his mouth. We had to put it on a few extra links so that he could get it to his mouth. He's also discovered that he can make noise. He likes to have conversations with you... and if he gets excited, the conversation turns into more of a happy yell. I think he'll be an early talked for sure. :)

His 6 month check up is next week so Ill update about that after it happens.
